In this soul-stirring Kalam, Hazrat Sultan Bahoo reflects on the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (A.S) at Karbala. He challenges the “scholars” of the time, arguing that if religion was merely about bookish knowledge, the tragedy of Karbala would never have occurred. True faith is proven through sacrifice, not just words.
جیکر دین علم وچ ہوندا
تاں سر نیزے کیوں چڑھدے ہُو
اٹھاراں ہزار جو عالم آہا
اوہ اگے حسین ؑ دے مردے ہُو
Jay Kar Deen Ilam Wich Honda
Taan Sar Naizey Kyun CharDey Hoo
Adharaan Hazaar Jo Aalam Aaha
Ooh Agey Hussain Day Marday Hoo
If religion were only based on formal knowledge
Then why were the holy heads raised on spears?
Those eighteen thousand scholars of that time
Should have laid down their lives for Hussain (A.S)
جے کجھ ملاحظہ سرورؐ دا کردے
تاں خیمے تمبو کیوں سڑدے ہُو
جیکر مندے بیعت رسولی
تاں پانی کیوں بند کردے ہُو
Jai Kuj Mulahiza Sarward Da KarDay
Taan Khaimey Tamboo Kyun SarDay Hoo
Jaikar Mandey Bait Rasooli
Taan Paani Kyun Band Karday Hoo
If they had any regard for the Holy Prophet ﷺ
Then why were the tents and camps set on fire?
If they truly respected the Prophetic oath
Then why did they cut off the water supply?
پر صادق دین تنہاندے باہو
جو سر قربانی کر دے ہُو
Par Saadiq Deen Tanhaan Dai Bahoo
Jo Sar Qurbani Kar Dai Hoo
But only those possess the true religion, O Bahoo
Who offer their heads as a sacrifice in the way of Allah.
